Blaenavon is a town of 6,055 people (2011) in Torfaen county borough. It grew around an ironworks opened in 1788 by the West Midlands industrialist Thomas Hill, and in 2000 parts of the town and the surrounding landscape were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their industrial history.
